Question PC won't turn on...blackout problems?

Hi there, my partner is in love with his PC and seemingly can't live without it, however, the other night we had a total power blackout in the suburb.
Since the blackout, the PC won't turn on.
It wasn't turned on at the time of the blackout, but now when you press the power button, nothing happens. Power still seems to be reaching the motherboard as a small light switches on at the bottom of the motherboard when the power box is switched on.
Any ideas?

Default Re: PC won't turn on...blackout problems?

Hi --Welcome to PCHF.

Unfortunately...when Blackouts occur ... there can be related power surges.
PC Components don't like power surges.

If you were very lucky-- it may have just fried the power-supply.
The green light is "stand-by" power indicator, but may not necessarily mean that the rest of the PSU is OK.

The bad news is that it may have taken Processor/RAM/Motherboard with it.

A computer repair shop could test it for you...
Those power-strip type surge suppressors-- if you have one are actually not worth much.
What is really needed is something like this:
APC Product Information for UPS

However... most home users either don't know -- or don't want to fork out the cash.

Good practice to watch the weather ... if there's thunderstorms in the area-- shut down.

I'm sorry I can't be more optimistic.
