Hmm...for a quick fix how about throwing a blanket over the tower? Leaving the back exposed so it can still exhaust & not over heat but the sides would be insulated

E-machines uses Bestec PSUs btw...notoriously shoddy....

P.S. I'll try the eraser thing when I need to. I have both canned air and a big eraser. These contacs are clean tho and little dust inside.

Very thin layers of oxidation can form --even on "gold" contacts... I'l leaning towards the PSU now-- Emachines aren't known for their gaming rigs LOL

I used a heater to warm it up, with the side open and it would still shut off several times for a while. It is a weird situation. Still no matter what it seems temperature (especially not overheating but being cold) shouldn't matter if the PS & MB are bad...it would always cause problems right? I guess I'll have to fork out for both. If only I had a PS tester or some motherboard tester..maybe I could figure it out. But not when it isn't cold outside/inside 'cause when it's not it works great. This is bothern' me fur sure.

Your comment was true -- to some degree...
My avatar explains it better... I hate bills because I carry them around for a living... (Postman)-- not too fond of paying them either
I've no great love for Mr Gates-- in any case-- so it still 'works'

Lightbulb Re: computer malfunctioning ... when its cold in house

i actually have a similar problem. sometimes when i first turn on the pc after its been off for a long time and when its cold. when the power switch has been off on back or the power was unplugged, bios sometimes doesnt find one or both of my harddrives so windows cant load. i turn off and back on and after a few tries it works alright. sometimes while im busy doing something on the pc, i hear a click, sometimes several times before eventually showing the blue screen of death. i wrote down everything verbatim once but they are always different.
