Exclamation My laptop will not turn on fully! Help!?

I have a gateway cx210x vista. Last night I updated my pc with windows update and turned the pc off. Then I opened the back and took out the fan unit and cleaned it, then I took out the CPU to look at it because of fascination. Then I put everything back and turns on the laptop. Then the fan turns on and off like it usually does when I turn it on, and the lights all turn on, but the screen doesn't go to the start up screen, it is just blank. the fan still turns on when I left it long enough for the laptop to get hot.
Could it be that when I open up the back and took out the CPU, I forgot to unplug the power cord and remove the battery?
Any help? the pc is only a year old. I can believe that this is happening to me!

Hello triplez,

Does the PC still beep when switching on? You didn't come into contact with any of the pins on your CPU did you?

what kind of beeping? When I move close to the laptop, I can hear the CPU buzzing like it normally does.Nothing sounds abnormal or anything.

Hello triplezzz21,

It sounds like you might have knocked a wire loose to your monitor screen. check your connections and make sure everything is ok.

I don't think it is the monitor, because after I waited for a long time, when I press Caps Lock, the light doesn't turn on. Could I have shorted out the CPU?

The first thing I would do is make sure you have powered off the laptop and disconnected from power and remove battery.

Open her backup and take a tourch and take a look inside and check for any loose/disconnected cables.

If it was working before you opened it up then you may of loosened something inside.Or not reconnected some thing back were it should be.

Everything is connected properly. So I'm going to buy a processor on ebay and install it and see if it works.
