Default PC help - installed some new parts........

Ok, i baught a dell inspiron 531 about 8months ago now, and I have done some various upgrades since then. First off about 3months ago I upgraded my ram to 3gb of ddr2, everything went fine.

Today I baught some new parts for my PC. This included a PSU and new graphics card. The products i baught were -

Point Of View 8800GT 512MB GDDR3 256bit Dual DVI PCI-E Graphics Card

and a new PSU to be able to run this graphics card, which was -

Hi-Power Black 700W 14cm Blue LED Fan PSU - 20+4pin, 4x SATA, 4x PCI-E

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ok so I began replacing these two components into my PC. I added my PSU replacing, my hard drive cable, the 24pin cable into the mobo and my cd/dvd drive cable (sata). I noticed when removing the old PSU i had an extra 4pin square area, I left nothing there for a while.

Then I replaced my old graphics card - my Nvidia 8400gs, I was unsure about the 6pin cables at the back (it came with a cable to plug in, however I didn't connect it to this, i Used my 6pin cable which came with my PSU)

So now this is when my issue occured, I powered up my PC and my PC monitor was like on a standby mode, it wouldn't switch on, so i powered off and checked everything and then replaced my new graphics card with my old one(to check if it was a PSU issue) - The same still happend, my PC monitor wasn't switching on.

So i switched back and now the PC system will not even turn on, does anyone have feedback they can give so I can fix this problem!

Thanks.

Hello and welcome to PC Help Forum.

Mmmmm,Ok you have a 24 pin port on mainboard? Then you need to either plugin a 24 pin cable connection or a 20 pin+4 pin.

Aslo you need to plugin the seprate 4 pin on mainboard located elsewere.

Are you able to upload pictures of how you are connected?

Then I replaced my old graphics card - my Nvidia 8400gs, I was unsure about the 6pin cables at the back (it came with a cable to plug in, however I didn't connect it to this, i Used my 6pin cable which came with my Power Supply Unit)
Little confused on the above. Is there not a 6 pin on mainboard?Or did you bypass mainboard connections? You plugged into power supply? Not sure?

It seems you have not connected all the power connections to mainboard?

Pictures would realy help.

I have a 24pin on the main board, and a 4pin located on the other end of the motherboard. The cable that came with the PSU was a 20+4pin (the 4pin can be broken off if needed) - I also have a few 6pin connects 8pin and 2pin connectors, can I use one of these to put in the seperate 4pin area?

First pic both plugin the 4 pin plus 20 pins connection to second picture.NO do not use any other connectors to enable this power supply only the 2 I stated.

Is there a seprate 4 pin socket on your mainboard located else were?

Is the CPU power connection plugged into the CPU fan port on mainboard?

Just getting your computer specs.

Sorry pics are a little bright.Let me look at the others brb,
