Default What do I do?

first of all heres my problem.When i turn my computer on and go through all the logging in there is no problem but when i try to access anything on my desktop nothing responds.I cant do a system restore or access anything .can anyone please help me.This computer is for my work and i cant access any documents.

It just freezes?
What was the last thing you did on it before this problem occurred? Have you got an antivirus program? If so which, if not then you may have gotten a virus which is causing this.
Could you please post your system specs?
(Processor type & speed, ram, HD brand & size, and operating system)

I was typing up a letter and I have McAfee antivirus.Do you think its a virus and if so how do I get it off my computer.I have a dell dimension 5100 pentium d and I am running windows xp.It doesnt open anything.

Well first off McAfee (as far as Anti-virus progs go) isn't that good, free ones like AVG (which I use) are far better, or for paid ones, Kapersky is notoriously the best out there hands down. If it gets working again I'd highly recommend changing it. If you can manage to get onto the desktop and use it, please do the prework Linked here and post the resulting logs and a HiJackThis log in our [New] HiJackThis Logs forum, if you can't then you may need to open up the PC case, are you comfortable with this and do you have another PC you can put this hard drive in as a slave drive (or second HD)?

O.K. I did everything you said and posted logs in HiJackthis log forum.Hopefully this helps.I really need computer and dont really have the money to pay a tech to fix it.
