Smile [Resolved] Not detecting IDE devices...

My sister recently boughts parts needed to build herself a new computer. I put everything together, Case, motherboard, processor, fan, power supply, hard drive, dvd-rom/dvd-rw drive, 1 gig RAM, and a video card.
All of it is brand new. I connected all the internal cables properly(as described in the manuals that came with the products).
Everything in the computer is getting power, of that I am completely certain. When I boot up the computer, it shows that there are no IDE devices connected. I'm certain I have the IDE cable correctly plugged into the motherboard, dvd drive, and hard drive. The hard drive is set to master, and the dvd drive is set to slave.
I do not understand why the computer is not seeing my IDE devices. I have checked the cable numerous times, and again the cable is brand new itself, so I wouldn't think that it's a bad cable.
Does anyone have ideas as to what I should do?

Hello and welcome to PC Help Forum.

Are the hard drive and DVD rom on same IDE cable? If they are then they need to be on seprate cables.

The main hard drive is set to master the main DVD rom drive should also be set to master.

If you fit a second hard drive or CD/DVD rom then these would be set to slave.

If you can get into BIOS you may need to check your settings in there?Maybe set the drives to auto detect.

Check around in BIOS what your settings are.

They are on the same IDE cable, but the motherboard only has 1 connection for an IDE cable. I have actually entered BIOS and set the drives to auto-detect.

Try another cable, it could be bad, even though it's brand new. You can at least rule it out.

Hi welcome to PCHF try them in the PC seperatly and see in they detect if they do it's a good sign when you plug them in on the IDE port make sure you have the master on the end of the IDE cable and the slave on the middle an the other end on the mainboard and see if that works. In some PC's you have to put the master at the end of the IDE cable.

I discovered the problem. I had the jumper on the back of the hard drive on the wrong jumper.
This particular Hard Drive had no symbols or letters indicating which jumper was what. So after guessing with trial and error, I got the right one and everything came up working just fine. Thank you for your help and suggestions.
