I have been, without success, attempting to repair a friend's PC for the last week or so. When the system is powered on the HDD and fans all sound as though they are running properly, however there is never a POST beep nor is there any video display of any kind. Here are the approximate specs:
Pentium 4 HT (speed not known)
BFG nVidia GeForce 7800 GTX OC PCI-E
2GB DDR 3200
HDD appears to be a Seagate SATA drive
So far I have discovered that the video card is still functioning correctly as it performed fine when placed in my machine. I have switched the
PSU with a known-good one of similar power with no change in results. I have switched
RAM with known-good of the same speed with no results. Upon removing the
GFX card I receive the correct POST beep code to indicate the lack of a VGA card. I'm running out of ideas, if anyone has any suggestions on where to go next, I would greatly appreciate it. Also, I do not have a known-good PCI-E graphics card to ensure that the PCI-E slot is still functioning properly, as the card I use in my own machine is a 7950GX2 and it does not fit properly in his case.
Thanks!
