Default gpu or motherboard or monitor issues.. not sure which..

Hi Guys,

Im having an issue ive not experienced before with my secondary pc.

It began yesterday when i tried to hook up the pc via an s-video cable to the tv.

First off it just started behaving strangely. The monitor going blank after the windows loading screen and displaying "Monitor will go into powersaving mode in a moment" The default messgae when the monitor cant pick up a signal.

Then after a while of booting and shutting down and blowing dust, pressing in connectiones etc.. it booted up but with a VERY distorted screen, flaring, ghosting and vertical lines and basically unreadable. I removed the card, cleaned away any dust, checked all conenctions and replaced.

Now it boots up fine in safe mode, clear screen etc, but when i boot up in normal mode it gets to the windows loading screen and just goes blank and the mointor goes into powersaving. If i shut the monitor off and on, it says "please check cables, no signal detected". It always goes off at the same loading point, and boots fine in safe mode as i have tried it several times... cant figure out what the problem is, or how to trouble shoot it.. so any help will be much apprcieated.

Its xp sp2, P4 2.8, msi motherboard, 500w psu, pny GF 7600, onboard sound.

thanks,

max
