I was thinking the other day about why there needs to be so many different kinds of processors (Socket A, Socket 745, Slot 1, etc... to name a few), it seems like our options would be much vaster if this was universal, what's your take on this?
To me it's kind of like why laptop batteries aren't universal (that's for a later thread...), mainly money reasons, but what do I know....not much (as far as this is concerned)

Hi Zachary, honestly the different types of processors is due to enhancing technology. The old slots and sockets could handle what the new LGA 775's and AM2's bring to the table. As technology changes, we find better ways to do it.. so there really is no way to create a "universal" slot/socket.
