Default Cyclic Redundancy Check Error

A relative of mine is having problems installing The Sims onto her laptop. It get so far into the installation and then an error comes up:-

Component Transfer Error
Component- Template Download
File Group - Template Download File F:\Setup\data5.cab Error Data Error (Cyclic Redundancy Check)

I've successfully installed the same game onto my PC so I know it's not a damaged CD.

Any ideas what the problem is and how to fix it?

Hello Fools Gold,

Make sure there are no smudges on the CD and that it is clean. Also the Drive your relative is using may need cleaning. If this doesn't fix the problem then the drive may be getting weak or failing. It is more likely a cleaning will do the trick..

Good Luck
LC

Howdy Fools Gold..
In simple terms, a CRC is bit of mathematics used to ensure that your data is OK when being transfered. It's a checking procedure that quickly identifies when data has been damaged.

What I have done in the past when I get this error is put the cd in the drive. Right click the dvd drive it is in, click explore. A new window will pop up with everything on the disc. Right click an open spot in the new window and click select all. The right click again and click copy. Now make a new folder on your desktop and name it The Sims.. Open the folder right click in there and click paste..

If that does not work and you still get that message then download Alcohol 120% below and open the program up and make a image of the disc. It will skip those errors and the Simms will still work.

Alcohol Soft trial version download

Here is a screenshot of what it will look like when it opens and all you have to press while the cd is in the drive..
