Default [Resolved] PC Won't Boot

Just after possibilities at present as I can't do anything about it tonight.

Earlier today my children had been on CBeebies or similar and when I asked them to come off they did. Five or so minutes later I went to use the PC and it appeared to have hung.

Now, I have a mini KVM switch and at first I thought it had just been put on the wrong channel. However I couldn't change the channel and this is indicative of no power. So on checking my PC (it's very quiet usually) I noticed no power.

So I turned it on and I got a breif flash of red words on teh screen to teh effect of:

"do not power off whilst bios is updated"

it then rebooted and now it is just sat on the motherboard logo.

I have tried powering down and re-booting several times and always the same - it does the RAM check and then stops at the logo.

Tomorrow my first plan of attack is to reset the bios via the jumper to defaults - BUT of this doesn't work does anyone else have any suggestions please?

Darn, I was going with the BIOS reset..it's gotta be your best option at the moment.

"do not power off whilst bios is updated
That is what scares me...Not good to turn off pc during a BIOS update..Could potentially make your motherboard a doorstop..

What type of mobo do you have?
I would try the jumpers and taking out the CMOS battery as well..Hopeully you can clear the ROM on the mobo..

Sorry - first chance to get back.

In the end it would seem that a nights rest was ll my PC needed. I was perpared to strip it apart and reset the CMOS but thought 'let's try a power up first' and it worked fine and has done since.

@merlin - fortunately I didn't power off during the update, I was just (and still am) wondering why it should come up at all without me having instigated it!

Still
, another one to add to my list of 1001 things that I didn't have to fix on my PC.
