Default I hear it booting but see nothing

Hi Guys,

The first time i go to boot up my P.C the lights all come on as usual and it is processing but i see nothing on screen and my monitor goes into standby mode. I hear my windows kicking in and my Skype,M.S.N etc but still see nothing. I have to pull the plug and try a restart to get another go. On the 2nd or 3rd time i should get it to come on but its quite annoying and i think theres an underlying issue to some of my other performance problems.

Anything would be of help.

Thanks

Hello popester, welcome to PCHF.

Have you tried using a different screen? The problem will lye somewhere between your screen, cable, faulty or loose video card.

Do you have onboard video or an adapter card? Try replacing if video card and if onboard, disable and install a video adapter.
You might also reseat if its a video card. Replace your cables to rule those out.

I have a EVGA 8800 GTX graphics card, i think the reason that i get so many problems with the computer is that the previous owner overclocked the p.c and has damaged it somewhere. I have taken it to two computer shops now and it still isnt fixed

The only two things your likely to over clock is your CPU or GPU (Video Card). Since you can hear your PC starting up, I would definately say Video Card. If it was being overclocked, and your GPU is fried due to overheating, that would explain why your no longer getting any video output. Your only option in that case would be to replace your Geforce 8800 GTX card.
