Angry [Resolved] Windows XP Recognition Error

I have a serious problem. I am trying to connect two hard drives to my PC. They're both IDE. One has XP and the other has ME (Millenium). The problem is, my computer can only load off of ME and totally ignores XP. Could it be a virus or something? Also, in my other computer, there was only ONE problem: IF you would try to execute a program, change your settings, etc. on the hard drive, it would AUTOMATICALLY reboot. It wouldn't allow you to do ANYTHING. I wanted to see if it would do the same thing on my current one, but it won't load XP. It only gets as far as the boot screen and freezes. It "loads" for about 5 seconds and then stops. ANY help would be GREATLY appreciated and I need something ASAP. Thx and have a great day!

Hello jmarket,

The PC will start with the first available disk (primary) installed on your PC. Were both Operating Systems installed on this PC, or were they installed on a different PC and your trying to get them working on this one?

OK JM, here is where your going wrong. You cannot under any circumstances run Windows from a disk that was originally installed on another PC. Windows XP will not load unless the hardware (specifically the motherboard) is identical between the PC's. Windows 95, 98 and ME sometimes will, however you will experience unpredicted symptoms (very similar to the ones you described). You need to get the data off from the original PC the HDD's are meant for, and then install the operating systems from scrarch.

Here's another thing: I installed XP on another drive just a week ago on another computer and put it into my primary and it worked FINE. It loaded and everything! I need help. Should I just reformat it or update my BIOS?

If you want ME and XP to be a dual boot system jmarket then they have to be on the same hard drive.
You can't boot 2 operating systems from separate hard drives.
You also need to partition the drive to do so.

I ONLY want XP to load. I thought that by connecting both drives, it would boot into ME and it would recognize XP. But it doesn't. I'm getting worried and confused...
