Greetings!
I was wondering if I should totally ignore all OEM drives from the internet (newegg.com)... I am trying to find a hard drive in the 500 GB+ range....should I just stick to retail boxes with warranties.....what would you people here at PC Help Forum recommend I do?
Thanks for all advice!
Douglas

Hi there, OEM is the cheaper option though saying that if the hard drive goes, your on your own. With a retail hard drive, as you point out, you get a warranty, so if it fails you can obtain a replacement from the manufacturer. If i were you id go with the retail option.

Nor for the OEM side lol..
I have been buying OEM for years.. It is the same stuff. And by popul;ar beliefs you do get 1 year on hard drives from OEMS. Dont believe everything you read as the hard drives are not that much cheaper..You do get one year.. I have had only one OEM hard drive go out on me 'A Raptor" but I was able to return it even after I opened it to get my data off.

If it works good initially, it should be a decent sign of a positive future, right? I mean the oem hopefully has been taken care of as nicely as the retails. Is the the EXACT same as retail, in quality, treatment, and handling? If so, a one year warranty would be worth getting the OEM for.

Gotta agree with Merlin here, OEM never let me down
Great if you don't mind the "no frills" approach to hardware...
