Exclamation Pc Hardware Diagnosis

Hi All,

Ok my problem is i have some parts ive taken out of my old pc's the random parts that would make some good use towards a really small web server which im planning on putting linux red hat on...

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The spec of the parts is as follows:

Gigabyte GA-7VTXE+ Motherboard
AMD Duron 750mHz CPU + Heatsink + Fan
TwinMOS PC2100 128MB DDR/CL2 RAM
InnoVISION TNT2 M64-VANTA W/16MB Graphics Card
Mitsubishi Standard 3.5" Optical Floppy Drive
CyberDrv CW038D CD-R/RW
SAMSUNG SV4002H Hard Disk Drive

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So I have all these parts yes,

These have been tested so far

Motherboard UNKNOWN
CPU UNKNOWN
RAM FINE
Graphics Card UNKNOWN
Floppy FINE
CD Drive FINE
HDD FINE

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The main problem is with the motherboard it has a small area of components on the board which look as if they may have blown, when plugged in the board boots fine CPU fan reacts, and a status light on the board next to the RAM comes on but im unsure what this means as i have no manuals for this board.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The graphics card cannot be tested other than on this board as i do only have other pc's which have internal graphic cards.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

RAM has been tested in other pc and all of it works fine. (NOTE:Again unsure what this light next to the RAM means then :S )

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

HDD had new OS installed on it through other PC and loads fine.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So when i put all of this together though the monitor does not react yet the fan on the graphics card loads up. Is there any other way i can diagnosis these parts without having to pay a big some of money to a pc repair shop.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Any advice would be greatly appreciated....

Thanks.

You mean like scorched-looking-- or something leaked ?
like this ? Badcaps

Thanks For Reply,

There is no bad caps on the board i have checked them all throughly i recently well last night experienced something a little unusual i switched over the board to the Gigabyte one i have (listed above) and nothing happend the power didnt even boot so i placed in my old motherboard and failure to boot again, so i unplugged all my hardware power supplys to my HD ect except Motherboard and it booted i plugged them all back in though one by one and it booted fine then, so that might of been a loose wire,

For the scorched bit yes it looks like a couple of tiny parts have gone, i checked to see if the CMOS battery had died and it has. Could this be the problem or should the board still boot with a dead one ?

Thanks.

I cannot say... personally I would not risk running anything electrical with obvious damage. There is the risk of fire to consider.
All parts on a motherboard connect something-- because a part is small does not mean anything.
