sorry if this is the wrong area for this but i suppose an admin will move it to the right spot anyway. so my problem is that 99% of the time my PC will not post. every now and then it will turn on and boot up, i was able to play a little Counterstrike last night before going to sleep but then this morning again it would not boot. i reseated everything with no luck. i tried removing some hard drives so it would be less strain on the power supply, no luck. no the rare occassion that it does boot, i cannot see my D: and E: drives. i tried replacing the IDE cable and that did not work. one thing i did notice is that the hard drives got really hot so i tried letting them cool down and that did not work either. i know thats not really enough for a true diagnosis so tell me what i should look for and i'll post more.

Welcome to PC Help Forum.
When you say it's not posting..are we looking at absolutely nothing moving (fans, hard drives, CD etc) or are those things spinning up with no video?

I would say 1st thing to do would be to unplug everything you dont need, e.g. cd-rom, all HDD's, useless fans etc. Try booting, if still nothing, take out all your RAM and try booting, see if you get an error beep, if you dont, your mobo could be faulty, if it does beep, we can keep looking.
I know it sounds dumb but have you tried pulling the power cable out for a minute and then back in, that surprisingly fixes a lot of issues, lol |
