I'm running on XP, 1024 RAM, 80 GB HDD.

I recently updated the drivers on my GeForce 6600GT. I also downloaded the latest version of DirectX.

Ever since, my PC has being freezing up, nothing will work, task manager wont even open so I am forced to restart. This can only be as a result of the recent changes. I ran a virus scan ans Spyware before this post just to make sure and no viruses were found. I found a few Spyware but that's to be expected.

I did a system restore to before I updated the drivers but it still freezes up randomly.

After doing a bit of thinking, I think the problem is related to DirecX because: I went to get the latest version and installed 10. But I'm not sure if that works with XP so I installed 9.0c, without removes 10 because I couldn't find it on any uninstall list.

Any ideas?

I would try the same with the video drivers-- they are such an integral part of any Operating System-- that one tiny error anywhere will mess the whole thing up.

When I do Video drivers I follow these steps:
Download the driver files
UNinstall the OLD drivers
reboot
run a registry cleaner-- or manually search for bits & pieces.
disable my antivirus & other active-scan apps
install the new files
reboot again
