Default Floppy Disk Drive Problems

Hello. I have Windows ME on a Packard Bell imedia 5205. I am trying to boot from the recovery floppy but it simply displays an error in French which I don't understand. When I tried to access the FDD it said unable to read the specified device. I tried the disk in my external FDD and it seemed to work fine. I checked the FDD in device manager and it was OK. I opened up the computer and checked the connections and they all seemed to be in place. I just tried putting a new blank disk in the FDD and it asked me to format it. Should I say yes? What does this mean?

Any help would greatly be appreciated!

Ryan

Hello Ryan.

Can you please post the exact "French" message.

Which simply means "change the disk and press any key" - not an exact translation. So it looks to me as if it is expecting a second disk maybe.

The English equivalent of the error is:

Disk I/O Error
Replace the disk and then press any key
I've checked Google and a source claimed resetting the BIOS can solve this issue, but not necessarily will, because it's not the sole cause. But it's worth a try!

Please switch off the Power Supply Unit from the back of the computer and remove the power cord from the back of the unit. Press the power button used to turn on the PC about 10 times. Plug the power cord back into the computer, switch on the power supply, and see if that solves your issue.
