Exclamation [Answered] My disc drive wont load discs in general...

This thread may belong somewhere else, so sorry if it does.

For some time now my disc drive has been unable to play any disc in any shape or form, it spins inside and then dies out, and even when going into "My Computer" it doesnt show a disc icon.

I have an e-machine E4056 Desktop PC.

Anyone know what I could do to make it work?

Hello Day3091, welcome to PCHF.

Does the drive show up during the post screen when you initially switch the PC on, or when you go into BIOS (by normally pressing F2 or [DEL])?

Also, what version of Windows do you currently have installed, XP?

I have Windows XP service pack 2 installed.

How would I go into BIOS mode from the desktop?

You can't from the desktop Day. You need to reboot your PC.

The very first screen you come to is called the post screen. For example:

You can see on the example above, that the PC has picked up an ASUS CD-S520A. You should have a similar page unless you have an e-machines logo instead. If so, you'll need to press F2 or [DEL] to get into BIOS. Every BIOS is different, so it would be very difficult to talk you through the exact process, however you will need to look for your Primary Master, Secondary Master, Primary Slave and Secondary Slave.

For example:

In your Advanced tab, you will also see a setting to turn off the e-machines logo so that you can see if your CD-ROM is being displayed at this point. If you have problems, please can you describe in detail what you see.

The secondary slave wasnt installed I dont think...

Would I be able to get to you on it tomorrow? I need some sleep you see..

In the meantime could you tell me how to do a print screen on my BIOS screen and if I can? I tried then but it never worked.

If I cant print screen Ill just write down what I could see.

Thanks.

Hello,

I went into the BIOS settings and checked what you said. The Primary and Secondary Slaves arent installed, but the Primary and Secondary Masters are.

I didn't know exactly what you meant when you said look at changing an e-machine logo. I couldnt see an e-machine logo anywhere in the BIOS settings.

If you could tell us what to do next that would be great thanks.
