Default Restarts on Shutdown

Hi PCHF

When I go to shut the comp down, it just restarts and in the end I have to physically hit the off switch at the back of the comp to shut it off.

This is what I have checked, unticked auto restart in start and recovery, hoping it would show some code on the screen on where prob might lie, made no difference at all and no code showed up.
I have checked for Roxio Easy CD creator and roxio video cd 5.0, only due to reading that could/will cause a simular problem.Disconnected both keyboard and mouse during shutdown, both are wireless, which was another thing suggested.

Going into regedit and changing winlogon/powerdown after shut down and set value to 1 was another suggested, I never went and done that.
I tried to do some home work on it prior to posting here basically.
The rest of the cures for the problem I found, I left well alone.

According to my friend this problem started when she had a new graphics card installed, so she thinks,I found only a few articles on graphics card causing this problem, they mentioned going into BIOS and changing settings.

But I am not going into things I am not sure about only the simplier things for now.

Chiaz advised me to post this in here as he had just finished helping me out with some bugs on the comp, he also asked that I create link to this thread, enabling him to monitor our dilemma. Hope I got the link right.

Step #1 is ALWAYS uninstall the drivers to see if that solves the problem

If this doesnt work, since i have had a similar problem, i would have to ask you to try and hibernate the PC if it does not turn back on then you have the same problem as i had(if it does turn back on then my help is probly pretty much useless)

I think the reason for this is that something screwed up when the new drivers were installed, so there are a few options(in order they should be tried):
1)try to restore windows to an earlier date(system restore)(ONLY IN XP- This may undo the damage done, and dont worry about reinstalling the drivers, it seems to be luck of the draw wether it screws up)
2)If 1 dont work then boot from the CD and try to repair windows.
3)If repairing doesnt work then the only option that i know of is to reinstall, dont try this until you get some other suggestions, they may work as well

but the 1st 2 will not result in loss of data(#2 will require a reinstall of ALL drivers, service packs and updates though

Hibernating in XP (in vista it is already in the shut down menu)
Using Sytem Restore

Hi Cart,

I'd just like to confirm one quick thing...

When you goto Start -> Shutdown -> Turn off...the computer restarts?

Hi GaRHaR,

I go to shut comp down it goes through the correct process of shutting down correctly, u can actually hear unit shut off, though it restarts up straightaway and then goes through its normal start up.It does this all the time.

Thankyou

Hi mate

Resolution:

To resolve this issue, contact Roxio or view the following Roxio Web site to download and install the updated driver for Easy CD Creator 5.0 for Windows XP: http://www.roxio.com. To work around this issue, uninstall Roxio Easy CD Creator or Direct CD

Hi Matt,
Matt , looking through add/remove i do not see anything in regards to Roxio, assuming of course that is not a specific windows need, if u get what I mean.

Or are the updates drivers needed to try and fix this problem?

Thanks mate
