So my friend's CMOS Battery died on his computer. He called Gateway and they told him to just replace it, and he'd be fine.

He does just that, and now the computer has gone crazy. It seems like he's going to have to reinstall windows now, and we don't want to have to do that. Is there any way to repair this, or get important documents off of the computer before reisntalling windows? i tried my hand at it to no avail. Safe mode doesn't let you burn CDs or email, because the modem was blocked. The "last known settings that worked" didn't work they said, so i'm out of ideas.

Hi try this at post boot tap the Del key a few time this should get you into the bios when your in there select "load bios defaults" and save the changes. Did it boot after that ?
