Default Upgrading RAM

My HP 750n has 512mb. I went online and ordered another 512mb chip

now i see that both bays are being used, i cannot fit more chips, i will have to remove one.

My question, can i run the pc with one 256mb chip and one 512mb chip?

I remember many years ago that you could not mix/match memory, have times changed?

Thanks

You SHOULD be OK as long as both sticks are decent branded memory, I have no problem mixing RAM in my Thinkpad.
