Default IBM NetVista SERIOUS Bootup Problem

I have a black IBM NetVista. It was working fine when I received it from a friend. Now, the floppy, and CD drive are unresponsive (no green light), but the PC will turn on. When it turns on, it goes to the usual IBM screen, but thats it. The only button that works is TAB. When I press it, I get to a white/black screen that has some PC info. I clicked ESC to abort searching for a sec. master. It takes me to the XP loading screen. The screen flashes, then it loops. Whats wrong?

Hello tnine,

Welcome to PCHF.

Any new hardware added recently? Any error message just before the PC reboots during startup? You could have multiple problems here, but if it's a single problem were looking for here, the only thing I can think of is the power supply. If no hardware has been added since, it may be a result of capacitor aging, you may need to replace your power supply. Have a look at: eXtreme Power Supply Calculator - What Power Supply Do I Need and put in the spec of your PC, add 20% for capacitor aging, press the calculate button and compare you needs to what you have installed in your PC at the moment.

Thanks for the link. Can I find my PC specs online, or will I need to crack it open? I recently brought it in to a local repair shop (www.cravesystems.com), and they insisted it was a mobo problem. My computer genius friend said my hdd crashed, so Im somewhat confused :l

As long as it's not a custom built PC, it should have the make and model on the front of the PC, otherwise you can use SIW Download

Download and run run, go to File and Create Log File. Save it somewhere you will remember and then attach it back here by clicking on Go Advanced, and clicking on the attach icon (paperclip).

Did the computer shop swap out the motherboard?

Not that I know of, Im pretty sure it has the original mobo. And, no recent hardware changes. If it matters, before my PC went haywire, some kind of Windows kernel file kept getting deleted somehow. This caused me to have to re-install windows every few days. And its not custom built, just a factory IBM NetVista. I was only wondering about the specs because the Power Supply Calculator asks for some very detailed specs.
