I think your motherboard can support an AMD dual core, although not as good as the Intel ones but it would save you some cash.

Have you got the make and model name of the motherboard you currently have?

Save for now dude...upgrader is correct - intel is ontop of the market at present.

AMD have just recently released a statement saying "our quad core cpu's are going to be native quad cores and upto 80% faster then intels" or some such

So ur saying that I should get an Intel dual core even though you have already said that I should get an AMD CPU because they r better. But AMD dual cores are still good?

All the information about my motherboard that I can currently get was on the box it came in. Where would i find the model number of the board?

AMD Single Core better than Intel Single Core

Intel Dual Core (core2duo) better than AMD Dual core

But if you want to save money you might aswell go for an AMD Dual core (x2 range) - which will still be good.

But first we need to check your motherboard to make sure it is compatible. Can you tell me the make and model of your current motherboard please?

Im just looking.

What is your budget for a new processor?

Edit: Yep your motherboard is compatible with AMD's X2 range (AM2 versions only). I can suggest one for you if you tell me the budget.
