Default Upgrades

Hi All,

I am in the process of upgrading my good ol' p4 system to a new Core 2 Dual system.

I was wondering, is it worth it to get a Motherboard that supports SLI? The machine will be used for gaming mainly.

Here are some of the items that I am looking at:
NCIX.com - Buy EVGA Nforce 680I SLI LGA775 Conroe ATX DDR2 2PCI-E16 2PCI SATA2 RAID Sound GBLAN 1394 Motherboard - 122-CK-NF68 In Canada.
NCIX.com - Canada's Premier Computer Store - Great Technology, Service and Selection.

NCIX.com - Buy ASUS P5NSLI ATX LGA775 Conroe Nforce 570 SLI DDR2 2PCI-E16 3PCI-E 2PCI SATA RAID LAN Motherboard - P5NSLI In Canada.
NCIX.com - Buy OCZ Platinum XTC REV.2 PC2-6400 2GB 2X1GB DDR2-800 CL4-4-4-15 240PIN DIMM Dual Channel Memory Kit - OCZ2P800R22GK In Canada.

Also, will the RAM from my current system work on a new board? (at work so I dont have the specs on it)

THanks

Hi BigR,

they are both good boards, sli well it is only a good choice to use sli if you have two of the best graphics card otherwise you will get better performance from one graphics card equal to the price of the 2 most often.

I cant tell whether the RAM from your old system will work without the specs of it.

so a non-sli board with a 512mb Video Card would probally be better than an SLI board with 2 256mb cards....

Depends on what the cards are? Although if you already have a decent card that is sli compliant then you might aswell get a performance increase by buying another one as that is cheaper

Most of the high-mid range boards have SLI or crossfire anyway, doesnt mean you have to use it though

SLI is pretty much a waste of money...i went from 2x 7800GT (256mb) to 1x 7900GT (512mb) and got a performance gain...
