Default Laptop screen blank on startup?

Normally I take my computer to an IT repair center when this happens, but I have a report due tommorrow and if at all possible I'd like to be able to get it off my now-dead computer rather than rewrite it.

Basically, what SEEMS to have messed it up was the battery falling out in the back, somehow I switched it to open on my leg and without noticing loosened it...sad I know. Anyways, out of nowhere my screen goes blank and my comp dies. I thought I'd lost it until I realized the pack had just come out of the back. So I put it back in and started the computer up.

Here's where the problem comes up. The screen changes color to a light black like it always does, the system starts up, everything gets going, but NO picture whatsoever comes up. It even shows me connected to the wireless internet, but still no screen or picture. I have had this happen twice before and honestly I doubt it's repairable by myself, but if anyone has any help to offer I would be grateful.

Thank you,
Bspa

Welcome to the site.

Is it possibly a loose connection in the ribbon that connects the laptop base to the screen? Does the screen come back if you move the screen in an opening/closing motion? Do you have another monitor that you can hook up to the back of the laptop to test?

I'll have to look at that after class. I'm pretty sure it's not the monitor acting on its own simply due to this having happened before. I'll check, but it doesn't come on from moving the screen up and down (just from observing it). It seemed to happen immediately after the battery pack incident.

Thanks for the input so quickly, I'll test it and reply soon.

No luck =(. Someone said to press the function key and F7 (which shows a computer screen in blue coloring). It turned the screen on like it was a light black again but it didn't bring any picture back. I hit it again and the screen went pure black again. Does this help identify the problem at all?

It's like I can boot the screen up but no picture apparently.

Try hooking up a monitor externally.
