Default Odd start-up problem

Hi,

I hope someone can help with this. When I switch on my pc the fans begin to spin and everything sounds like usual but nothing appears on the screen, not even the DOS start-up lines. If I then then switch my pc off and back on again everything is OK, and the machine runs through the start-up process perfectly. May this be a problem with the motherboard? I've changed the video card, suggested to me as a possible problem, but that has made no difference. Any ideas would be much appreciated, but please bear in mind I am a computer novice. Thanks in advance for any help.

All the best,
Des

If you try this, pay special attention to the "be careful though " part at the end. This time of year static electricity is at its worst. One member fried a keyboard not too long ago from this. The spark jumped from his fingers to the keyboard and zapped it. LOL Before you go in your machine or handle any components, touch something thats grounded(the case will do) and discharge yourself.

Great advice uncleed.

But frying a keyboard?...I've never even heard of that happening before
Heard of drowning a keyboard....and hitting a keyboard with an axe (more so participated then heard about)...but never fried

LOL: !! Yeah, ive never seen it before either, and we`re not 100% sure thats what happened, but it sure sounds like it. It was AW_3_3 a week or so ago, have a look here:
http://www.pchelpforum.com/periphera...-keyboard.html
Some people`s bodies have more capacitance than others and are more easily charged, and their bodies will hold a bigger charge. I am unfortunately in that category. Its not fun getting zapped everytime you open a door. When i get out of my truck, i have to grab the metal part of the door, and put my foot on the ground before i slide out. This helps dissapate the charge, other wise i get zapped. This is a good suggestion for other people that get zapped everytime they get out of their vehicle. Wearing leather sole shoes and walking accross a carpet is the worst, ive seen sparks jump from my fingers 1/2 inch.LOL So, im thinking its possible thats what got AW`s keyboard, but maybe not. But i have damaged components before by forgetting to discharge. It doenst take much static charge to blow some small signal transistors.
