Default [Answered] Standby or Leave on?

Im just wondering what's the best method to use.

I usally put my PC on standby when I'm getting off for 10-120 mins.... I'm just curious, is it better to leave ur PC on.. instead of always putting it on standby?

I take many breaks in between... so it makes me wonder if just leaving it on for the day is better? I also feel.. putting it on standby 2-8 times a day.. caused my HD to get corrupt.

Anyways Im just wondering what you think and do yourself.

Thanks.

I power mine right off normally as I feel a desktop does not require Standby / Hibernation like a laptop does. Depending on what I'm doing, I also it have it setup to just turn the monitor after a certain period of time.

Right click on the Desktop / select Properties / Screensaver / click on Power / Power Schemes, in the Turn off monitor box change this to what you require. I have mine set to 10 mins.

MOnitor power off,yes.. system standby or shoutoff each time, NO! Leave it run for the day.. in that kind of mode (monitor off) the power usage is very minimal and you're not constantly having the HD go thru bootups. Unless it runs into a problem, leave it running.

Yup - I agree with Arctos.

If i'm away from my computer for more then 20 minutes, i'll just turn it off...
it only takes 30 seconds to turn back on - big deal.

True enough.... time frame wasn't what I was thinking about... but then again, with the newer drives, I suppose how many times it gets booted really doesn't matter like it used to... geeezz.. that kinda dates me a little!~ Ahh well! Think I'll listen to my own quote again! LoL

Seems there is a pretty even split on that... but yes, the monitor time off part is always a plus... some of these things pull some pretty good power. Having 4 in the house was of definate interest to my power bill until I set the kids that way.! LoL
