Default Help with compatibility issue - Motherboard / Power Supply

Guys/Gals...I recently inherited a computer from a friend. It doesn't turn on at all ! The power button does absolutely nothing. I troubleshoot all of the obvious so far. The power/reset buttons work and all of the connections are intact. I'm wondering if when whoever put the computer together has the right components for it. It's in a Liam-Li case (if that helps). The power unit is a Enermax EG465P-VE (431W) and the motherboard is an ASUS P4T-E. Are these compatible? I'm sorry if I left out some pertinent information. I'm very new to this forum and never put together a computer before but I'm generally very technically inclined. If it helps to know, when I turn the button on in the back of the power supply, the green standby LED illuminates on the motherboard. I tried to get information from the company websites but didn't find anything useful (unless I missed it). Any help would be greatly appreciated here.

Thanks to all in advance.......Dave

Welcome to the PC Help Forum, DJO Fix It.

Lian-Li are very very nice cases...just too expensive....very nice that you inherited it indeed.

it's most likely a faulty part - first thing you should do is remove the memory and videoc ard...and insert the back in carefuly.

Thanks for the info GaRHaR....I tried what you said and still nothing. I'm at a loss...the fans don't even turn on but like I said, power must be getting to the mother board because of the green LED that comes on. Can you think of anything else. As I mentioned, do you know if I can use that power unit with that motherboard? Maybe that's it.

Thanks again.........Dave

Have you tried unpluging the harddrive cd roms dvd ect. and extra cards just leave the video card in and switch it on to see if that is the cause of the problem.

if you want to check if it is the power switch remove the power switch plug from the mainboard and cross the 2 pins with a screw driver and see if it boot you only need to cross the pins for a split second for it to switch the pc on.
