Thumbs down Odd Psu Question

I recently had a psu go on me so purchased a thermaltake purepower 3 PSU. I was using a cheap one, anyways my question is hard to search on any site cause its a long complex one. Both PSU's radomly will power the board other times i turn the switch on not. My board has an LED telling me when the power is to the board, and sometimes i have to sit there for 5 minutes flicking it on and then off and then off and then off. Finally working, I'm just wondering wut this could be it just may be an odd connection. Had the computer for 5 months never caused any harm, but the new PSU just got today is doing it.

HI Dtownbrown,

Welcome to The PCHF!

What you're describng does indeed sound like a ropey connection from the PSU to the Motherboard. Try checking the MBD connector for any signs of the pins being deformed or if they have signs of arcing (black marks).
N.B. Please make sure that the system has been discharged befor you do this. Easiest way is to turn off the PSU, press the PC power button a couple of times, then disconnect the PSU from the motherboard and do the same again. Then Earth yourself by touching the pc frame for a couple of seconds before touching anything on the board.
Let us know what you see.

Will do I should also mention I have a 28 to to 24 pin converter... Which could be the weak connection.

Aah yes, I've had fun with those before, the converter has usualy been the faulty part with the female part being too open so that the pins from the PSU dont fit snugly. Try disconnecting the converter and CAREFULLY crimp the female end a little bit with long/needle nosed pliers to make sure that the pins fit snugly. This can be a bit trial and error but will work if you're careful.
Keep in touch

Sorry for the late reply, Just checked all those as well as signs for arcing and there is none. I do see the psu try to start when it won't boot, i had a similar problem before where it would never boot and it was the usb on the back shoprting, but that was a different mother board
