Default [Fixed] Newly built PC Problems

Hi all, now im a complete beginner here but firstly iv built a high end pc and its not as good/fast as i thought it would be.. plus a few little niggly problems like on shut down the power supply doesnt always turn itself off and sometimes internet disconnects itself and wont reconnect... the main thing is the performance... now basically when i built this pc i just put it together installed XP pro and used the driver disks that came with motherboard/ graphics card and stuff like that ( didnt touch Bios as i know nothing about it ).... just relied on disks to " automatically" configure my pc.
Here is a breakdown of my pc parts

AMD Athlon X2 dual core 4800+ cpu
Asus A8n32 SLI Deluxe motherboard
Gainward 7800GT 512mb Bliss graphics card.. only 1 of
2Gig Corsair TwinX 2048-3200C2pt DDR XMS 3200CL2 ( 2x 1G ) memory
Akasa powerplus 650w powersupply

All this in a Thermaltake soprano case with a Sony DVD/RW and sony Floppy... I dont think iv missed anything.

Now I know nothing about PC's but the one thing I know is this is a quite decent spec PC and should be performing better than it does.
Any help/advice/tips/diagnostics would be most welcome.

Cheers

Shane

Hi there and welcome to the forum

The first thing I would do is to list your hardware and then manually go to the manufacturers drivers pages to grab the latest versions. Do that and let us know if the performance has changed.

OK, will do.... Im just not too sure if I would need to change any settings in the BIOS or manually through windows.... but firstly ill try all the manufacturers sites for updates as they are currently on the defaults

Yea, let's leave the bios update for now and start with the easier stuff, the drivers.

OK.... I think I have all the latest drivers for the motherboard, CPU and graphics card... along with some ( probably useless ) utilities and a bios update from asus... early days yet so i might just give it a day or two of using my PC and see if theres any noticable difference.
My next question really is settings n stuff... do i need to change any...also with the list of components iv got.... should this be a good/fast PC

Again thanks

Shane

Hi Shan
Welcome to PCHF

That pc should be like a rat up a drainpipe mate, wickedly fast.
Net breakdowns: Who's your isp?
Do you have turn off options in Control Panel/Power set to Never?
This may be a good tool for checking how fast is fast unless other members have better sites to look at.
