Default [Answered] What about this router?

Hi!

I have been given a Wireless ADSL Firewall Router by a friend, here are its specifications:

Netgear
54 Mbps Wireless ADSL Firewall Router
DG834G v2

I have all of the relevant cables for the router, but I suspect that some sort of network card is required to make my laptop connect to it. Can you tell me what's required? Here are some more questions:

* is 54 Mbps the speed of the internet connection that I'll get? Is that dial-up speed?
* Where will I get a network card from, assuming that's what I need? What type?
* How do I then connect to the net through it? What do I need to say to my ISP?

As you can see, I'm pretty useless at this sort of thing! Any help is appreciated!

Colin

Thats quite a nice router (i own it)

* You wont get 54mbps internet connection that is just the speed of the connection to the router you can get max via wireless.

* You can get network PC cards from many online and high street shops or you can use a usb adaptor which isnt too practical on a laptop so your better off with the network pc card. You may not need one however as you may have built in wireless in your laptop. What is the make and model of your laptop.

* You need to configure it via router configuration and will need router settings from your isp. What is you isp i can find them for you probably?

Hi Colin

Here's a fair explanation of wireless internet and, as you will see, it saves me a lot of typing.
