Default [Pending] Dad having computer problems

Hey again!

My dad's having pretty bad computer problems and I suspect it could be hardware related *DUN DUN DUNNN!*

Anyway, for the past few days he's been having problems with F.E.A.R extraction point and as far as i'm aware, the original F.E.A.R. The game play's really choppy. He's also having texture problems. Some textures in certain places will be pitch black and the flash light won't reflect of them. When this hasppens if he presses escape the menu doesn't appear, just a black box. Also some of the smoke effects come out really blocky, black boxes. He recently re-installed Half Life 2 and gave that a shot. Near the start it will freeze forcing him to restart. It just did it a few mins ago and I told him to go to task manager. When he did ctrl alt delete a error message appeared saying task manager had errored!
He doesn't know what to do and neither do I. He even reinstalled windows to no avail. He also has the latest ATI drivers.

His specs:
Ati X850 graphics card
1024mb ram
AMD 3800 processor (Dual core)

If you need any more details just ask!

Thanks
Me and Dad

Hi Me and Dad

Can you force it to happen, and when you get back into windows - check the event viewer?

Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Event Viewer -> Application

See where the red X is in there, and also check System logs as well.
