hello, i am new to the site, and have been trying to fix this little problem of mine for a while now. i was given a compaq presario s4020wm originally bought in 6/04 and the motherboard was replaced approximately 13 months (yea right after the warranty expired, bah) later. for some reason the person who gave me this harddrive decided thatthey were going to do a complete system restore on the harddrive, should have been no big deal. however, as windows xp home loads, an error pops up with a code purple and says to shut down the harddrive. i am enjoying teaching myself about computers, so this harddrive that was given to me was/is kinda a "toy". if i can fix it, good for me, if not, oh well. is there a way of fixing this code purple? and if so, what and how do i do it? i would appreciate any help on this!! thanks!

I have move this post from under someone else's older post. When you have an issue you should post a new topic so your problem gets the attention it deserves. |

hi there, the exact error message given to me is as follows:
System Configuration Error Your system has detected a configuration error. Please report this error to Customer Care using the phone number found in the Warranty and Support Guide that came with your PC. Unless corrected, this error will prevent your PC from operating properly. Turn off your PC by pressing and holding the Power button. After a few seconds your PC will automatically turn off. (Code Purple) |

Hi SykotikDisaster, welcome to the PCHF!
Can you tell me if you receive a stop error code? Such as 0x000000F? If so, can you tell me what it is (exactly)? If not, it might be an idea to do a "destructive format" on the hard drive, and try the restore again.

Can you tell me what the stop error code is? each one has a specific meaning, and they help you diagnose what the problem is.
