Default [Answered] How to watch PC on your TV?

I was wondering if anyone knew what I need or if it was possible to watch your PC on your TV. I dont mean TV to PC, PC to TV. I dont really like watching things on the PC, it would be better if I could watch the movies I play on PC to go to TV.

Hi Kasper,

It all depends on what TV you have or what Graphics card you have.

Most LCD and Plasma TV's now come with a VGA connector so that you can plug your TV directly into your graphics card.

A lot of graphics cards, such as NVidia also come with an S-Video connection, which, with the right cable allows you to connect to your TV's scart socket, and even use it as a second screen whilst your working on your PC.

You can also buy VGA to SCART converters quite cheaply, but a lot of people have problems with these, since you will end up spending a lot of time syncing your PC to your TV and setting the correct resolutions each time you want to watch a video.

You can get a decent graphics card nowdays, for a pretty reasonable price, that will do what you want. Alot of crt tv`s, even the cheaper ones, have s-video inputs. I have an Nvidia GeForce 4000, which isnt really a great card, hooked to the tv with a 30ft. cable, and the picture is as good as with my set top dvd player. I also used some shielded cable, and built longer cables for a mouse and keyboard, so i can sit on the couch 30 feet from the pc, and still play. I agree with you, i get tired of looking at the little monitor too, try it , youll like it.

You can get whats called a Scan Converter to convert video signals to whatever you use. If you don't have s-video, you can get one of these, RadioShack.com - Computers: Components & parts: Video & capture cards: MSI TV@nywhere Plus TV Tuner Card
I have not used this particular model, but it looks good.

Seeing that you purchased that card from the UK, it could be PAL rather than NTSC resolution.

Just curious, why can't you use another pc monitor? If your a video editior, then you are making a smart choice. If your wanting to watch a movie, then your as well off with a regular monitor, it will look better. Plus their is the problem of getting the video to play on the other monitor. You may have to shell out another $50 to get Cyberlink PowerDVD to be able to do that.
