Default [Answered] Flash Drive Problem

I have a 2 Gb portable flash drive (pen drive) which has been working fine connected to my USB 2 ports. However, since yesterday, it will only run for a few seconds before locking up and dissapearing from the drives in My Computer. I now find that if I connect it through my USB 1 hub, it still works OK.

I am running Windows XP and have tried a system restore with no effect. I have not yet been able to try it on another PC.

Any ideas?

I have had a fair number of cases in which the usb port failed to function any longer. It could be possible that you dropped the pen, or perhaps got it wet and thus it no longer functions or performes how it used to? I am only guessing. I recommend trying to get to another PC that has a 2.0 usb slot and see if the pen will work there. If the pen works in other computers but not your own, you either have a bad USB port, or some sort of wacky virus. Good luck!

Whaky virus, or perhaps corrupt drivers?

try a system file check..

Start -> Run -> sfc /scannow and make sure you have your windows cd handy.
