Unhappy Power - but no display! HELP!

Hi, Its a first time new build for me. My system is:

E6400, Gigabyte-965p-S3, Geforce 7600GT DDR3, 1GB DDR2 667 PC5400 RAM, 450W 24PIN PSU, 250Gb Maxtor SATAII 300,

On first power up, fans, LEDs, HDD all came on, but no display at all. I have connected a VGA cable from the GPU to my Samsung LCD TV (Could this be the problem?). Also no beeps - although I have no speakers connected, I am using headphones.

Have tried connecting 4 pin power to connector near CPU but then nothing at all happens on power up.

Also have reseated everything apart from CPU and fan/heatsink.

Please help me, spent ages building it and now want to get it up and running. Thank you!

Hello wylstar,

Welcome to PCHF.

Actually, if you don't have any error beeps, then this is normally CPU or motherboard. Most likely CPU. If there was any other problem such as RAM or an expanstion card, you will normally receive a series of error beeps.

Thanks. I have been told I need the 24pin and the 4pin +12V power connectors in. Nothing happens at all when I do this. What could the problem be with the CPU? How do I detect it?

Also, I dont think there is an internal speaker - this could be why there are no beeps. I have connected headphones into the mobo instead.

Hi wylstar, as far as I'm aware, a lot of motherboards need the 4pin to provide power to the CPU. The fact that the motherboard will come on with the 24pin and won't with the 4pin suggest it is most likely to be the CPU.

You may have been provided with a faulty or smoked CPU. Also some older motherboards (which I don't think you have) have jumper setting you need to set such as CPU voltage before you power up the motherboard.

Is you CPU still under warranty?

Your display is will be ok, as long as you have used the provided VGA/DVI connectors and not s-video.
