Default [Answered] computer freezing

hey guys! how's it going?

alrighty...continuing from the same problem i posted in another thread about overheating...

i've determined it's not overheating. my bios always says temps are fine after freezes and i've cleaned my case of dust and made sure all fans spin - all a-ok

my problem (keeping in mind this wasn't a problem 6 months ago when i built the computer): now a days, whenever i try to play a game (battlefield 2142 demo recently) i can get about 5 minutes of gameplay in and then it blanks my screen out. the monitor usually says "no signal" or "signal out of range". more often than not the sound begins to loop also (so i figured it was a freeze and not a monitor refresh issue - although i made sure refreshes were right). only way to get out of it is to hard-reset and my temps are all find after that (although i should check my vid card).

i've got all the newest drivers...tried toning down settings...nothing

now...i've had problems with my harddrive getting corrupt randomly (think 2 times so far). could a faulty hard drive be the problem? i plan on replacing it anyway

thanks everyone for ANY help you have to offer

pc setup:
athlon 64 3400+
1 gig RAM
ATI radeon x1300
600w psu

Talking Hi

Hi upgrader764

looking at what you have said, the pc freezing could be caused by a number of things cpu, ram, M/B, cooling.
But you also have said that your harddive is getting corrupt and this is never a good sign, I have seen memory corrupt a harddrive, i have also heard of a motherboard doing it, how old is the H/D?

Default Hi Dexter

I have been having similar problems and I too think it could be my hardrive, so I got a new one ready to install so will let you know if it cures it.

The hard drive could be going, just as a warning have you backed up all the data you need, as you never know when disaster could just suddenly strike. If your temps are OK then check your HDD. Firstly, how much space has it got left and secondly run a scandisk check.(my computer-right click on ur HDD- properties-tools and check now. Select all the options and reboot it should go to a low res screen in which windows performs scan disk. Then possibly defrag.
As i said major concern is getting your data off that machine, just in case.
Good Luck mate!
