Hey hallidaycc!

I'm not sure of laptop pricing, and as I'm from Holland I'm even less sure about the prices in the UK.

I'd suggest you to go and search on the internet for similar laptops. Laptops in the same price range, and with the same specifications.

Post back if you need help with any.

Blue

Hey hallidaycc!

I would definately recommend Dell laptop's, and that's not a bad price your friend is offering you. Dell are also good with products that are still under warrany, if you have any problems, they come out the next day to sort your problem out. I can't fault Dell systems at all.

However, for gaming, probably not the best idea. It's hard to find laptop's with decent graphics due to the amount of heat they produce and power they consume. The processor and everything is great, but you would have a hard time trying to get a game like Battlefield 2 working smoothly, and certaintly would never be able to play Battlefield 2142 with a Radeon 9700.

If you really want to use a laptop for playing games, look for one that has a good NVidia card, such as a Dell XPS. Here is an example:

Dell XPS M1210 notebook

I would recommend a PC if it is practicle for your needs. PC's have always been cheaper to buy than laptop's, and they are also a lot cheaper to repair when things go wrong.

If you decide to stick with Dell, you can buy one for £816 including VAT and shipping. If you can afford the extra, when customising, keep the additional service or else you can downgrade to 1 year's collect and return. Also, if you select Graphics card and choose the NVidia instead of the Radeon.

The Dell Online Store: Build Your System

What puts the price you will notice on these PC's are the graphics cards. Games these days are very damanding, so you do need a decent graphics card. Game companies do like NVidia. You will find a lot of games that don't work with ATI. Basically, your looking for a PC with a least an NVidia 6600GT+ to work with modern games at the moment.
