Question boot problem,

Hey, I currently have a computer which when the power button is pressed it turns on but the bios gives a video card error, but i am positive there is nothing wrong with the card. now here is the bit which has really got me stumped. you turn it off and as its turning off u turn it on again (ie that happens really really quickly) and it works and works beautifuly. i think its a psu issue as its though it wont boot up until power is allready running through it when its turned on.. I put my X300 back in and it booted up without problems.

My PSU is an ULTRA X-Connect 500w

Graphics card is : XFX 256mg 7800GTX

if anyone can help that would be great thanks

Sure does sound like a PSU issue. Let's see if SpeedFan can confirm this:

Please download Speed Fan and install it.

Start Speed Fan. When it is fully loaded, take a screen shot of the first screen by pressing Print Screen/SysRq on your keyboard. Open Paint and paste. Save the screenshot as a JPEG and post it in a reply to me. Now click on the tab called S.M.A.R.T.. Select your hard drive by using the drop-down box at the top. Now take a screenshot of that as well. Post it in your reply to me as well.

NOTE: For certain computers, Speed Fan will not display accurate measurements. If the temperature wildly fluctuates or doesn't change at all, let me know, otherwise I will believe the mesurements are accurate.

Hi schembri,

Have you plugged in the extra power to the video card for the 7800GTX?
It's more power hungry then the x300 and definatly needs a bigger power intake.

yes i have plugged the power in.. but i used the PCI-e power conecter that came with the PSU (because it looks cool).. but the one that came with the card requires 2 molex connecters to be plugged in... il try that one as it may only be getting half the power i guess

thanks

Hey i just tried all the different power connecters and nothing seemed to fix it. i was reading my Graphics card instruction manual and it says that the PSU needs to have 26amps mininum on the 12v line. my PSU has 34amps. how much would my motherboard. processer, ram etc draw? because that may be the problem that my psu isnt big, powerful enough
