Angry [Fixed] laptop will not start

Hi all
I have an Acer 233xc laptop computer, 3 years old now, previously was working fine.
When i switch on the power light comes on Ok - but nothing else happerns - the screen remains blank, and i do not even get any beeping. The lights for charging and cd reading come on if i plug in the power cord or put in a Cd/dvd. After it is left on for a while it gets hot in the top left corner(near the escape key). I have tried removing and replacing the battery - in fact this is the only way i can now switch it off.
Anyone out there have any ideas.
Thanks in anticipation
Jim

Hi Jim, welcome to the PCHF!

I think you will find, that if you hold the power button down for 10 seconds it will turn it off (much better way then pulling the battery out as this can damage the unit).

One thing you may want to check, is which display mode it is on, it should be FN+F5 or F4 (should have 2 squares with a / seperating them..or something similar)

Thanks GaRHaR
I tried to switch it off by holding down the power key as you suggested - it switched off OK. Then I switched on again, and it now appears to be working fine. I think it must have been left switched on all the time or something. Thanks again - I will send you an electronic beer!!
