Default Please Help - PC STOPPED WORKING!!!

I hope someone can give me some advice so that I may not have to traul my PC into a shop for expensive repairs.

Basically my Emachines XP has been working fine but one day I came home and turned it on. The light on the PC went on as usual but the monitor didn't seem to come on (connect with the PC) so I rebooted the computer and the sane thing happened.

Basically to cut a long story short, the computer didn't have the beeps and now will no longer turn on at all but only occasionally. If it does turn on the only thing that seems to be working are the fans and that's it. No disc drive, no beeps and no screen.

I've tried diferent power supplies and reseating the units but I think a part may have died.

I wonder if anyone may know what it could be so I could just replace my own.

Also sometimes when I turn it on and fails to come on, I leave it and an hour later I will go into the room and it will have turned itself on and the fans and light will be going but that's all.

Someone please help. I'm hoping changin the hard drive or mother board may solve it but if anyone has any ideas that would be great.

I havent tried that yet. I will though when I get home tomorrow and then i#ll post what happens. I'm not sure what the CPU, Ram and the other you metioned look like but i'll try and find out on the internet so as not to insult you but if you feel like descibing them I'd be really thankful

Ok I've just got back and tried to uplug everything except the CPU, PSU and RAM. to be honest it's hard to know which plugs to leave in as there are so many but I tried it and although the fans would start up each time and it would make a sounds like the system was turning on for a brief second, it still did'nt work.

Are there any more ideas or maybe I didn't just leave the CPU, PSU and RAm in totally on there on?

Thanks in advance
