Default CPU = Doesn't turn on

My friend recently sent me a PC threw the mail, before he shipped it out he reformatted the HDD and installed Winxp for me on it, all seemed well and it was off. After I recieved it I eventually got ready to turn it on after hooking it up to my monitor I pressed the power button...it didn't turn on. So I thought I fudged up by putting the wire in loose or something, nope that wasn't it. So I thought it was the power cord, so I got one of my replacement ones and hooked it up....no power still. So im thinking I got some bad wires somehow, I'll just use the one Im currently using for my PC on my desk. It did not work also. Well I found some sites on the net that talked about almost the exact same problem, they fixed it by removing the RAm sticks and other things, all of which I put back in to the exact same spot. But it did not work. My friend and I also tried turning it on without somethings hooked up to see if it was having probs with some of the hardware. But no it didnt work. The specs of this PC are : 800mhz, 32mbVIDRAM, 384MBRAM, 40GB HDD, and a DVD-ROM drive only. My friend said to replace the PSu with a another PSU tht has about the same wattage. I got my bros tht is 200w MAX., while the original one is 250W. But it did not work either. I have put the power cord in and looked inside the case to see if any lights blinked or flickered but none do, and I dont think there is any . Some things I noticed myself is the wire tht goes from the power button to the mobo has a missing prong, its there but its stuck up inside it somehow. Anyways my friend said tht shouldan't have anything to do with it. And I kinda agree, the PSu I put in the new pc has a missing prong but it works in my bros old pc with no problems. So thts about it folks, if this was posted in the wrong area sorry. But plz if you can reply soon it would be appreciated, this has been like this for a week, were both stumped.

Hi there jINKS, you seem to be having something faulty or probably connected incorrectly.
Please check if the ATX 12V power connector is connected if any(your syste will not boot if this connector is present but not connected). If the above is correct, and since the power supply is new, check your motherboard to verify it is not fried(shot) on another computer including your processor. Checkig all these will enable you to know which FRU is failing you.

Hi jINKS,

Welcome to PCHF. We have a wonderful staff of extremely knowledgeable techs here, and I am sure that we can help you to troubleshoot this problem.

I just want to verify that your friend tested the PC before sending it, and it worked fine for them. If that is so, then more than likely something (s) have become unseated during shipping.

From your description I am hearing that you are getting NO indication that any part of the PC is receiving power, is that correct? No beeps, nothing at all responding?

Have you unseated and reseated everything? Including your RAM? You may need to unplug and replug in all of your power wires, (try to start it after each, that way you will be able to determine which is the problem.)

I think you need to test the PSU you removed on say your brother's old PC to see if it works. When troubleshooting it is easier to test things on a computer you know works, rather than items that work on one computer being tested on the broken one.

Looking forward to your reply,

TTFN

LGW

Howdy jINKS,
There is another thing you can try.. Open the case find where the power button is plugged into the mobo. Take a flathead screwdriver and rub the metal contacts with it. Lets see if it powers on. If it was the CPU it would still post but nothing would happen the fans would run and everything.. SO its more than likely not your cpu.

Predator my ATX 12V power connector is inserted correctly into the mobo, i have checked tht many of times myself. Now for the motherboard can someone direct me to a tutorial site or a tutorial here to di it, I have no idea how to do it and I dont wanna mess up somehow. I am hearing n beeps no sound at all from the cpu not lights flicker or nothing. I have unseated my RAM but not the proccessor or any of my PCI cards. Do i unseat those aswell? And for the PSU...the other computer did not turn on when I installed it in the other PC. It came on and "Hummmed" but it did not turn the pc on. My friend and I have tried y"ou may need to unplug and replug in all of your power wires, (try to start it after each, that way you will be able to determine which is the problem.)" this did not work. Sniper what you told me to do did not work sadly.

This is pointing to your PSU... If you tried it on 2 different pc's and did not work good reason to look that way.

Did you accidently switch the voltage converter? Check that is @ 115 for USA you will find it below
