Default Hard Disk Trouble

I've got a NEC Versa VXi laptop bought at an auction that's now giving me trouble. The laptop boots, but then displays the message: "Cannot Unlock Internal HDD, Press any key to continue..." When I do that, I then get: "Cannot Unlock Boot HDD, press any key..." which then takes me to the BIOS setup screen. I've loaded the default setup, tried changing some values, switched out the Hard Disk for a brand new one, but I still get the same massage. Any new ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Hi Daisan - welcome to the forum,

Sounds like a bios password issue to me. Can you remove the power and the bios battery for 5 minutes and try again. This should clear the password. Also, check on your motherboard to see if you have a "reset bios password" jumper before doing the above.
