Default [Fixed] - PC wont start up fully, stuck in Standby

Hi lads, its not my week for computers. My PC at home is a Packard Bell, 1 year old. My prob is I recently moved house and reset up my pc as before. Ive used it a few times since with no problems but it started to mess me about then.

When I go to switch it on all looks well, the blue light on the on/off button goes on as does the little red power button but after 5 seconds it goes into what looks like standby mode and wont budge. This happened before but i managed to get it to start eventually through much on/off button pressing! Its just stuck in standby mode now, unless i pull the plug of course. Any suggestions? Cheers

Hey there Egg and welcome to PCHF,
  • When you first turn the machine on do you get any information displayed on the screen e.g POST screen?
  • If so how far does it get before it switches off?
It could be a loose connection:
  • Open up your PC and reslot the video card / RAM and any other PCI cards.
  • Check all cables that connect to your hard drive/cd-roms and make sure they are firmly connected.
  • Lastly check all power connectors included the one that runs to the motherboard, make sure they are firmly attached.
In extreme cases it may be caused by bad power in your area, I highly doubt this but have you had any other problems with electrical devices in this new house?

Hi zimbo, thanks for replying and the welcome!

When I switch on it acts as normal, blue light on button illuminates and little red light above it. This runs for like 3 seconds before the red light turns off and Im left with just the blue light. The usual startup beep does not sound either.

No keys work on the keyboard, although they light up just as i switch on as usual then off again. At no stage do i get anything on screen (bar the 'no input' signal like when the monitor is on and computer off). The computer seems to be in sleep mode and nothing seems to wake it so i have to hold the power button in and it switches off after 5 secs.

I have just moved into a brand new apartment but I have used the computer once or twice since, although I have had this problem before each time. Worried!

Hi egg,

Are you comfortable with opening your PC? If you are then my suggestion would be to remove the bios battery and the power cable - leave for 5 mins then re-insert the bios battery and the power cable. If you need further explanation just ask

Ok, the first thing we need to do is identify your motherboard...so please run THIS and post the details of your motherboard back here.
