On the Dell 8400 desktop that I just fixed the memory SIMM's on, my internet connection is via Roadrunner cable through a 4-port router. There is a second Dell (8300) hooked up to the same router. Until yesterday, I have had no issues with the connection on either PC. Yesterday morning on the 8400, the internet connection simply dropped. No web access nor can I ping the other PC. I plugged in another cable (another port on the router) that I use for a laptop periodically and got the same result. The 8300 has sailed along with no issues. I have gone to the Dell support site and stepped my way through a troubleshooting path that included trying to ping sites or the 8300 as well as trying to reset the IP stack, etc. The light on the rear of the 8400 for the network adapter is on when the cable is plugged in but the 8400 cannot pick up an IP address from the router and, hence, no internet. It seems that the card itself (Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet - Deterministic Network Enhancer Miniport ) has gone bad. First, would anyone agree? Second, are there any hardware tests that I can run on the network adapter to check this out? I am trying this forum out first before treading into the many time frustrating world of Dell Tech support. Thanks for any help.
