Default [Resolved] Lost network/broadband connectivity

On the Dell 8400 desktop that I just fixed the memory SIMM's on, my internet connection is via Roadrunner cable through a 4-port router. There is a second Dell (8300) hooked up to the same router. Until yesterday, I have had no issues with the connection on either PC. Yesterday morning on the 8400, the internet connection simply dropped. No web access nor can I ping the other PC. I plugged in another cable (another port on the router) that I use for a laptop periodically and got the same result. The 8300 has sailed along with no issues. I have gone to the Dell support site and stepped my way through a troubleshooting path that included trying to ping sites or the 8300 as well as trying to reset the IP stack, etc. The light on the rear of the 8400 for the network adapter is on when the cable is plugged in but the 8400 cannot pick up an IP address from the router and, hence, no internet. It seems that the card itself (Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet - Deterministic Network Enhancer Miniport ) has gone bad. First, would anyone agree? Second, are there any hardware tests that I can run on the network adapter to check this out? I am trying this forum out first before treading into the many time frustrating world of Dell Tech support. Thanks for any help.

Hya Tim.

Have you tried to "repair" the connection? In Network Connections , rightclick on the adapter and select "repair". If that doesn't work , does it give an error?
Is it an onboard network card or pci? And do you have an other network to try it with?

Also have you already tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver?

 Hey Tim,

You haven't mentioned it so I have to ask, have you unplugged both the modem and the router and allowed them to completely recycle?

Also, have you tried going straight into the modem with one of the PCs to rule out the modem as part of your problem?

Look forward to your reply,

TTFN

Joe,

I did try to repair the connection and the message was (basically) that Windows was unable to repair the connection. I have not had a chance yet but I plan to do what Lady Greenwich suggested and unplug the AC power from both the router and cable modem. Last time I worked with things, I could not get a connection from 3 out of the 4 router ports which included the one to the 8400 which leads to the router being an issue. Plugging the one good connection (from the 8300) into the 8400 was unsuccessful. So, next step is to go the recycle route.

Joe,

Just when I was headed into battle for the recycle, all is well with the Internet connectivity. There may have been a small, brief interrupt in the HH power which may have been enough to reset the router. Thus, I will wait to recycle anything for now. Thanks for the suggestion.
