Default Time to upgrade!! but to what?

Hello everyone i am ready to upgrade my pc now that i actually have a job ^_^

my specs are in the txt file below aswell as my questions

Windows XP Home/SP2
Asus P4P800S-X
P4 2.8ghz 478 Socket with stock cooling
1GB of PC3200 DDR
80 Western Digital HD
Sound Blaster Audigy Plat Pro
GigaByte Nvidia 6600GT+HSI Bridge AGP
420Watt RaidMax Psu
RaidMax Case

and I run the 3Mb service from Charter

overall its a good Internet and everyday type thing PC but it lacks in gaming
very badly and I also hate the fact I am following behind in the technology of
PC's now days such as PCI-E ,SLI ,and Dual Channel Ram ,Dual Core and 64 Bit and
many more things of that nature so I am asking you 3 simple questions

1. What would you recommend for a Wise and Productive Upgrade?

2. How much of an performance upgrade do you think will happen?

3. How much would this cost?

Edit by bdude: I decided to copy/paste your specs in.

Hya KiNito , welcome to PCHF.

That would really depend on what you want to spend on it , and since you already have a pretty good pc i think you would want to go for something like these maybe:

That's more than decent enough! I'd wait, if I were you, unless you'd really want top of the line stuff.

- not much, but a new type of cpu is comming out with totally new technology

3. How much would this cost?
wel, depends on the band you buy, and graphics card. but my pc
P4 2.8 Ghz (th, dual), 5600 FX geforce4, 1Ghz Nvidia ram, ASUS mobo 800fsb cost less than $1000 (when it first came out)
:cheesy: nut the specs above is good enough,
