I bet you all envy my invisible PCI multimedia audio device.

Anyway, today when I booted up windows, it said that I have a "PCI multimedia audio device". I just deleted that thing in the hardware control panel, but it's back. *sigh* Windows never gives up, does it?

You see, I have no "PCI multimedia audio device". I only have a PCI-Ethernet card.

So where does this audio card come from?

It could be "on-board". Have a look in your bios for the device and dis-able it in there.
