Default [Fixed] Error Loading OS

Okay, so I'm trying to refurbish an old PC of mine to send to a friend. I've got everything put back together but there's, of course, a problem. I turn it on and it goes through the motherboard logo, then I get the video card info screen, then it gets to the part where it detects the IDEs and other hardware. It thinks on this page for awhile, and finally comes up with "Error loading OS" at the bottom of the screen. I can't get past this. It won't boot from the windows xp disk. I've looked in the BIOS, and it seems to be detecting everything properly. The hard drive is primary master, the cd is primary slave. I believe the jumpers on both of these are hooked up properly. The hard drive has been used before on another computer. I think this is the problem, but I don't know how to fix it. I'm almost certain buying a new hard drive would work, but I don't want to do this. Anyone give me a hand?

Hi Iron Pigeon, is the CD Rom set to boot first?

Ok if it is, have you tried with the XP Disk? If yes, then you can download a boot disk from http://www.bootdisk.com . Download the file(s) and put them on a floppy disk. Go into your BIOS and set the floppy disk as your first boot device. Insert the disk, restart the PC and you should then be able to setup Windows XP. Make sure you also have the CD in the drive as well.

Yup , that is probebly the problem. If you try to use an HD with an windows install from an other pc (specs) then it will try to load the wrong settings and drivers. Always re-install windows after such an hardware change.
