Default Questions about Graphics Tablets

I am a amateur game programmer, and I am working on my new game. I have never been able to do art well so I have always requested an artist to do my art. Though, now I am really sick of waiting weeks to set up a team. So, I decided to do my own art, after several "agonizing" days of work, I decided that it is impossible for me to do art with a mouse.

So I decided I need a graphics tablet/pc tablet/drawing tablet.

Before I buy one I have a couple questions:

1. Can I place a sheet of paper, with a drawing, over a graphics tablet and trace over the drawing and it will show up on the screen?

2. Do things I draw show up on the graphics tablet's pad?

3. Is there a erase feature on graphics tablets?

4. What is a decent graphics tablet that is in the $1 to 70$ range?

5. Do graphics tablets work on all software, even ones like ms paint?

Those are all my questions.

Thanks for your help,
ihatemycomputer

I could be wrong, but if you wont to do computer related artwork... its probably mandatory that you know how to use a program such as Photoshp. (That is if you need acurate images or whatnot)

If you dont have access to photoshop... heres is the best Free Image editor similar to it... Iv never used it cause i use Photoshop, but i hear GIMP is realy good... www.gimp.org

for getting artwork onto the computer, if you need to draw it on paper first...

I would, Scan or take a Picture(with a digital camera) of the drawn image and then open it in a Photo Editor such as Photoshop.

I have gimp and and photoshop and I know how to use both. I just want to know if graphics tablets work with simple programs too.

Heh, that is the first thing I tried, but after scanning my drawings I had to go over them with a mouse and this took forever for large amounts of drawings. I want to be able to do art on my computer with the same control as I use my pencil. So a graphics tablet seems as close as I can get with a pencil.

your right... i never needed to do that, but i thought there would be a easy way to filter it out to make it look like the computer brushed it... but i just tryed and i couldnt figure it out.

That would be the easyest and quickest way though if there was a filter or technique that could turn the pencil marks into strait even computer brush strokes.

I never used a forum for photoediting, but if you ask the question over at a forum such as one of the bellow, im guess there should be someone there who could give you a answer on how to do it.

EDIT: If you find a way to make the penicl drawings look like it was drawn on the computer... post the answer here, cause id be interested in how its done as well.

i know you can create a Level's adjustment layer and turn the pencil black and then mask its outline with a Curve's adjustment layer to get rid of the faded outline.... but the inperfections of a perfect line that the pencil creats is still there.

Though if anyone else knows the answer to these questions, please answer. You will be given a great amount of thanks.
